Ukraine Reports Missile Strikes, Drone Attacks Across Country
Russian forces launched dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones at Ukraine on Sunday, killing at least one person, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks targeted various regions, including Kyiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv.
According to the Ukrainian air force, Moscow launched 50 ballistic and cruise missiles and 297 drones overnight, with most being intercepted. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia has been investing in strikes over diplomacy.
The attacks were reported in several regions, including Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, and Sumy. The main target was the energy sector, but residential buildings and a railway were also damaged.
In a separate incident, a policewoman was killed and 25 people injured in Lviv after explosive devices detonated inside a shop on a central shopping street. A Ukrainian woman suspected of carrying out the bombing has been arrested, according to law enforcement.
Russian forces targeted five districts in the Kyiv region, injuring at least 15 people, including four children, and killing one person. In Kharkiv, Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that at least 12 settlements were targeted, with six people injured.
In Odesa, fires broke out after Russian drones struck energy infrastructure, according to Governor Oleh Kiper. The governor stated that there were no deaths or injuries, but an assessment of the state of energy facilities and elimination of consequences is ongoing.
These attacks are part of a near-daily occurrence in winter during Russia’s war in Ukraine, which started almost four years ago. Attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities have deprived millions of Ukrainians of heat, power, and running water due to temperatures below minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit).
