Ukraine Experiences Overnight Attacks from Russia
Russian forces launched a series of drone and missile strikes against eight regions in Ukraine, resulting in at least five fatalities and 30 injuries. The central Ukrainian city of Dnipro was particularly affected, with over 20 people reported wounded, including a nine-year-old child and two police officers.
According to reports, two individuals died in the city of Nizhyn in the Chernihiv region, while a one-year-old boy was among those injured in the Kharkiv region. A rescue operation is underway at a residential building in Dnipro, with emergency services responding to attacks across Ukraine, including in Chernihiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian National Police reported damage to six homes, five high-rises, and several buildings, including a post office and a church. The country’s Air Force confirmed that 619 Russian drones and 47 missiles were launched during the attacks, with air defenses shooting down or suppressing 610 of them.
In a statement on Telegram, Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin reported one person wounded in attacks on Sloviansk and another in Kramatorsk. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the situation, stating that Russia’s tactics remain unchanged and targeting civilian infrastructure in cities.
The latest attacks follow a previous strike in Odesa that killed a married couple aged 75. The European Union has approved new sanctions against Russia’s energy, banking, and trade sectors, with discussions having previously stalled due to opposition from Hungary.
