A Shooting Incident Involving a Senior Russian Military Official
A shooting incident occurred on Friday in Moscow, Russia, resulting in the hospitalization of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, deputy chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff at the Defence Ministry. According to Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee (ICR), a gun attack was carried out by an unknown assailant on Alekseyev in a residential building located on Volokolamsk Highway.
Petrenko stated that a criminal investigation has been opened into attempted murder and illegal trafficking in firearms related to the incident. The shooting took place at the scene, where the suspect fled before being apprehended. Alekseyev was taken to one of the city’s hospitals for treatment.
Investigative efforts are currently underway, with officials reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses. This incident marks the latest in a series of attacks targeting senior Russian military personnel since the start of the war in Ukraine four years ago. In some cases, Ukrainian military intelligence has claimed responsibility for these incidents.
