Saudi Arabia and UAE relations with Yemen face growing instability concerns

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been involved in a long-standing coalition to combat the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The mission has seen varying degrees of success over the years.

In recent years, the UAE has pursued its own interests by supporting and arming the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a group based in southern Yemen. However, Saudi Arabia has taken steps to address concerns about national security after the STC seized control of areas near its borders.

As a result, the UAE was given an ultimatum to withdraw from these areas within 24 hours. The UAE agreed to comply with this request.

Experts will be discussing the implications of this development for Yemen’s future. Abdul-aziz Al Ghashian, senior non-resident fellow at Gulf International Forum, and Alkharder Sulaiman, spokesman for the Southern Transitional Council, will share their perspectives. Andreas Krieg, associate professor at King’s College London, will also provide insight.

The discussion is expected to explore the potential consequences of this latest development in Yemen’s ongoing conflict.
