Multiple Countries Affected by Conflict
Reports have emerged of overnight attacks targeting various locations across the Middle East and beyond. According to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, a commercial complex in Bahrain’s capital city, Manama, was targeted. The Financial Harbour Towers, which houses the Israeli embassy, were among the sites hit.
The conflict, sparked by the United States-Israel war on Iran, has led to retaliatory strikes from Tehran against nations hosting US forces and assets. Multiple countries, including Gulf nations, Arab states, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, have been affected by the conflict.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense reported that a cruise missile was intercepted and destroyed east of the country’s central al-Kharj governorate on Friday. The ministry also stated that three drones were intercepted in the Riyadh region. Qatar’s Ministry of Defence announced that its air defence forces successfully intercepted a drone attack targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, which hosts US assets.
European Union leaders expressed support for Arab countries in the Gulf, condemning Iran’s actions as “inexcusable”. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and other European leaders held talks with GCC officials on Thursday. The conflict has also led to increased security measures in Jordan, where air defences shot down several drones in the city of Irb.
Multiple explosions were reported in Doha on Thursday, prompting authorities to issue an alert warning people to remain indoors and stay away from windows and exposed areas.
