A Shooting Incident Occurred Near the White House
On Monday, a shooting incident took place near the White House in Washington D.C., resulting in one person being wounded and another being shot. The United States Secret Service reported that they returned fire at a gunman, wounding him and triggering a brief lockdown.
An investigation has been launched by the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department into the incident. According to Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn, the shooting occurred after plainclothes agents identified a “suspicious individual” carrying a firearm. The agents followed the man and called for backup before uniformed officers arrived on the scene. When the suspect attempted to flee, he opened fire, prompting the Secret Service to shoot back.
A child was also shot during the exchange, but their injuries were not life-threatening. It is unclear who fired at the minor, but investigators believe they were struck by the suspect. The Secret Service has stated that there is no evidence to suggest the gunman intended to target US Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade.
The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was taken into custody and charged with attempting to kill Trump, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and illegally transporting guns and ammunition across state lines. He has been arrested and is awaiting entry of a plea.
