Senegal and Benin share Africa Cup of Nations points against DR Congo

Senegal and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) drew 1-1 in a Group D match at the Africa Cup of Nations, with Sadio Mane scoring the equalizer for Senegal. The match took place in Tangier on Saturday.

Cedric Bakambu gave the Leopards the lead just after the hour mark, but Mane replied soon after to level the score. This result ensures Senegal remains atop Group D with one round of matches still to play. Both teams have four points, but Senegal has a superior goal difference before their final group match against Benin on Tuesday.

Benin defeated Botswana 1-0 in Rabat earlier Saturday, moving to three points from their opening two games. The result also puts Benin level with Senegal and the DRC in the table. Benin took the lead in the 28th minute when Yohan Roche scored a deflected goal.

Senegal had more possession and chances on the day but were unable to take the lead until Mane’s equalizer. The match was part of a group stage that will determine which teams advance to the next round. Senegal will face Benin in their final group match, while DRC will meet Botswana in their last pool game.

In other Group D matches, Benin and Botswana played earlier Saturday. Yohan Roche scored the winning goal for Benin, while Mothusi Johnson struck the crossbar with a curling free-kick for Botswana. The result marked Benin’s first-ever victory at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
