Senegal edges Egypt 1-0 in African Cup of Nations semifinals

Senegal Advances to Africa Cup of Nations Final with 1-0 Victory Over Egypt

In a tense semifinal match, Senegal secured a 1-0 victory over seven-time winners Egypt, sending them through to the final against either Morocco or Nigeria. The winning goal was scored by Sadio Mane in the 78th minute, after Lamine Camara’s initial effort was blocked.

The match took place on Wednesday at the Stade de Marrakech in Tangier, where Senegal had taken the initiative but struggled to create clear chances against Egypt’s stubborn defense. Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly was forced to leave the game due to injury and a yellow card, which resulted in a suspension.

Egypt’s Omar Marmoush had an effort saved by El Shenawy in stoppage time as the Pharaohs’ desperate attempts failed to yield a result. The match saw several tense moments, including a foul by Mohamed Salah on Mane, but both coaches managed to calm tempers.

Senegal’s Habib Diarra was booked for arguing and will miss the final, while Egypt’s Nicolas Jackson had fired over just before Senegal displayed more attacking intent. Pape Gueye also had an effort saved. The match ended with a 1-0 scoreline in favor of Senegal, securing their spot in the final against Morocco or Nigeria on Sunday.

The final will be played at either the Stade Mohammed V in Rabat or the Stade de Marrakech, depending on which team advances to the final.
