Senegals School of Husbands promotes gender equality among its participants

Senegal Launches Programme to Educate Men on Gender Equality

A new initiative in Senegal aims to promote gender equality among men through a unique educational program. The “School of Husbands” is a government-endorsed and UN-backed project that has trained over 300 men across 20 schools in the country.

The program provides a safe space for men to discuss sensitive topics related to gender equality, which they may not feel comfortable addressing in public. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions on issues such as relationships, parenting, and household responsibilities.

According to organizers, the program’s goal is to help men develop a more nuanced understanding of their roles within families and communities. By doing so, it aims to promote greater equality and respect between men and women.

The “School of Husbands” has been implemented in Pikine, one of the locations where the program was launched. The initiative has received support from local authorities and international organizations, including the United Nations.

As part of the program, participants have the opportunity to engage with peers who share similar concerns and experiences. This collaborative approach is designed to foster a sense of community and encourage men to take an active role in promoting positive change within their families and communities.

The “School of Husbands” initiative has already made significant progress, with over 300 men trained across 20 schools. The program’s success will be closely monitored as it continues to promote greater understanding and equality between men and women in Senegal.
