Sudanese Doctors Network Reports Drone Attack on School and Health Centre
At least 17 people have been killed in a drone attack on a secondary school and health centre in Sudan’s White Nile State, according to the Sudanese Doctors Network. The attack occurred on Wednesday in the village of Shukeiri.
The network reports that 10 people were also wounded in the incident. Musa Al-Majri, director of al-Duwaim Hospital, stated that his facility is the nearest major medical facility to the village and has received patients from the affected area.
The Sudanese Doctors Network described the attack as “horrific” and stated that it represents a continuation of violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in White Nile State. The network cited reports of several civilian facilities being targeted over the past two days, including a student dormitory, power station, and residential neighborhoods.
The RSF has been involved in a conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), which is backed by the government. Following the SAF’s capture of the city of el-Fasher in North Darfur, the RSF shifted its campaign to the region. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has launched an investigation into alleged “war crimes” committed by both parties.
The conflict in Sudan began nearly three years ago and has resulted in thousands of deaths and millions of displaced people. According to the World Food Programme, at least 21.2 million people are facing high levels of acute food shortages, while 12 million have been forced from their homes due to the conflict.
