Indonesian Peacekeeper Dies in Beirut Hospital
A Corporal with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has succumbed to injuries sustained during a recent incident in southern Lebanon. Corporal Rico Pramudia, an Indonesian national, was critically wounded when a projectile hit his position last month.
According to reports, Corporal Pramudia was transported to a hospital in Beirut, where he received medical treatment. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away at the hospital.
This incident marks the sixth death of a UN peacekeeper in Lebanon since hostilities escalated in the region. The cause of the projectile that struck Corporal Pramudia’s position has not been disclosed.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is a multinational peacekeeping force deployed to southern Lebanon to maintain stability and security in the area. The organization has reported several incidents involving its personnel, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
Corporal Rico Pramudia was an Indonesian soldier serving with UNIFIL. His death brings the total number of UN peacekeepers killed in Lebanon since hostilities began to at least six.
The incident highlights the risks faced by peacekeeping personnel deployed to conflict zones. The United Nations has expressed its condolences to Corporal Pramudia’s family and is providing support to his colleagues.
