South Africa edges Afghanistan in T20 World Cup second super over match

South Africa Edges Afghanistan in Second Super Over at T20 World Cup

In a dramatic Group D match at Ahmedabad, South Africa defeated Afghanistan by one run in the second super over to secure their spot in the next stage of the tournament. The match was tied after regulation play, with both teams scoring 187 runs.

Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi was run out on the final ball of regulation, ending his team’s chance to win it. In the first super over, Afghanistan scored 17 runs and restricted South Africa to 11 runs, but Tristan Stubbs hit a six to level the scores again. The teams then went into another tiebreaker.

In the second super over, David Miller and Stubbs combined for three sixes as South Africa posted 23 runs. Keshav Maharaj took control of the match by dismissing Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the next delivery after he had hit three consecutive sixes to get the required runs down to six off one delivery.

Lungi Ngidi was awarded player of the match for his performance, which included taking 3-26 during the match and bowling the first super over. The South African team’s victory marked their second win in the tournament, following an earlier match against Canada. Afghanistan has lost both of its group matches so far and is unlikely to advance from the Super Eights.
