San Antonio Spurs Secure Western Conference Finals Spot with Win Over Timberwolves
The San Antonio Spurs have advanced to the NBA Western Conference Finals after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109. The Spurs took a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven semifinals series and now face the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are considered heavy favorites for another championship.
Stephon Castle led the Spurs’ wire-to-wire win with 32 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 11-of-16 from the field. De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama also contributed to the victory, scoring 21 and 19 points respectively.
Wembanyama was targeted by the Timberwolves for his actions in game four, when he was ejected for smashing an elbow into Naz Reid’s throat. However, he stated that he “had to beat them by playing basketball” rather than giving in to physicality.
The Spurs dominated the game from the start, leading 74-61 at halftime and extending their lead to 56 points by the end of the third quarter. The Timberwolves fought back, but were unable to overcome the Spurs’ strong shooting accuracy.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have stayed alive in the Eastern Conference semifinals after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-94. The Pistons trailed 3-2 in their best-of-seven series before Friday’s must-win game, but produced a strong early onslaught to build a double-digit lead.
Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 21 points, including five three-pointers, while Jalen Duren delivered a dominant defensive performance with 11 rebounds, three blocks, and a steal. The Pistons will now face the Cavaliers in game seven on Sunday, where they must win on the road to advance.
