Sudan displacement camp struggles with rising child mortality rates due to waterborne illness

Displacement Camps in Sudan Face Health Crisis

Families displaced due to conflict in Sudan are facing significant health challenges, including limited access to medical care and inadequate living conditions. The Khor Ajwal camp in White Nile State is one of the affected areas.

Residents of the camp have been without proper healthcare services for an extended period, exacerbating existing health issues. In addition, the lack of clean water has created an environment conducive to the spread of diseases.

According to reports, children and elderly individuals are succumbing to bilharzia, a disease caused by a parasitic worm that thrives in contaminated water. The parasite is typically found in areas with poor sanitation and inadequate waste management.

The Khor Ajwal camp, which houses displaced families, has been identified as one of the hotspots for this health crisis. The camp’s residents have expressed concerns about their access to basic necessities, including clean drinking water and medical care.

Health officials are urging the international community to provide assistance to the affected areas, including the provision of healthcare services and sanitation infrastructure. Efforts are being made to address the shortage of clean water in the camps, but more support is needed to mitigate the health crisis.
