Syrian Authorities Arrest Hezbollah-Linked Cell, Accusations Denied by Lebanese Group
A Syrian Ministry of Interior statement announced late on Tuesday that authorities carried out simultaneous security operations in various regions across the country, resulting in the dismantling of an organised cell affiliated with the Hezbollah militia. The ministry claimed that the cell’s members had infiltrated Syrian territory after undergoing intensive training in Lebanon.
According to preliminary investigations, the cell was planning targeted assassinations against high-level government officials. Authorities seized military equipment, including explosive devices and RPG launchers, during the raids. Eleven suspects were identified, including the person allegedly responsible for planning and supervising the attacks.
Hezbollah has issued a statement categorically denying the false accusations made by the Syrian interior ministry. The group stated that its presence inside Syrian territory is non-existent and questioned the motives behind the repeated claims. Hezbollah’s denial suggests that there may be an attempt to ignite tensions between the Syrian and Lebanese peoples.
The arrest of the Hezbollah-linked cell comes as Syria’s new authorities have repeatedly announced the discovery and disruption of alleged plots to undermine security, which they attribute to Hezbollah. The group has consistently denied these accusations.
