Teams to Qualify for T20 World Cup Super Eights Announced Globally

Australia’s World Cup Chances Under Threat as Pakistan Seeks Qualification

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has reached its halfway point, with only three teams having secured a spot in the next round of the tournament. Australia, the 2021 champions, is facing an uncertain future after losing all three group stage matches thus far. The team must win its remaining two games against Sri Lanka and Oman to be in contention for Super Eight qualification.

Pakistan, on the other hand, has a slim chance of progressing despite being knocked out of the tournament if it loses its final group game against Namibia. A loss could put Pakistan in a precarious position, with the USA potentially facing them in a battle of net run rates.

The USA is considered an outside contender for progression, currently boasting a higher net run rate than Pakistan. However, a loss to Namibia and the margin of it could alter those numbers and impact Pakistan’s chances.

Australia needs to secure wins against Sri Lanka and Oman to be in a strong position for Super Eight qualification. However, even with victories in both matches, Australia may still face elimination based on net run rate. The team would need six points to secure qualification, but joint leaders Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe could also finish the group stage with six points each.

Pakistan’s fate is tied to the outcome of its final group game against Namibia. A win will see Pakistan through to the next stage, while a loss could put it in a difficult position. The USA remains a contender for progression, but its chances are uncertain.

The second stage of the tournament will take place from February 21 to March 1.
