Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Shares Footage of Damaged School
A video shared by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on X appears to show destruction at Shahid Hamedani School in Tehran’s Niloufar Square. The school, an elementary institution, is reportedly among the targets of recent US-Israeli attacks.
According to Baghaei, the footage shows students before and after the attack. No further details are available regarding the circumstances or number of casualties. This incident would be the fourth reported school hit in Iran since the conflict began.
The Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab was struck on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of 160 children and five staff members, according to UN experts. Satellite imagery analysis by Al Jazeera’s digital investigations unit suggests that the school was not located near an adjacent military site for at least 10 years.
US officials have acknowledged that their military is investigating the incident. Reuters reported that US investigators believe it is likely that US forces were responsible for the strike, but a final conclusion has not been reached. UN rights chief Volker Turk has urged Washington to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation into the incident.
In addition to the school in Minab, two other schools in Parand were hit by missiles fired by the US and Israel on Thursday. The Fars news agency reported damage to nearby residential units. According to UNICEF, at least 181 children have been killed in the strikes so far, with over 1,300 people reported dead.
