Thailand and Cambodia Reach Ceasefire Agreement After Weeks of Conflict
A ceasefire agreement has been reached between Thailand and Cambodia following weeks of deadly clashes along their border, according to officials from both countries. The agreement was signed on Saturday by Thai Defence Minister Natthaphon Narkphanit and his Cambodian counterpart Tea Seiha.
The Joint Statement, which outlines the terms of the ceasefire, states that both sides agree to an immediate halt to hostilities. As part of the agreement, current troop deployments will be maintained without any further movement. The ceasefire is scheduled to take effect at noon local time (05:00 GMT) and applies to all types of weapons and attacks on civilians, civilian objects, and military objectives in all areas.
The agreement marks an end to 20 days of fighting between the two Southeast Asian neighbours, which has resulted in over 100 deaths and the displacement of more than half a million civilians. The ceasefire is seen as a significant development in efforts to bring stability to the region. Further details on the agreement will be provided as they become available.
