Thomas Pritzker Steps Down as Hyatt Chairman Amid Epstein Ties

Hyatt Hotels Corporation Announces Leadership Change Amid Association with Jeffrey Epstein

Thomas J. Pritzker, 75, has stepped down as executive chairman of Hyatt Hotels Corporation, effective immediately, following revelations about his long-standing association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Pritzker will also not seek re-election to the company’s board at its 2026 annual stockholder meeting.

In a letter to the Hyatt board and a related statement, Pritzker expressed regret over maintaining contact with Epstein and Maxwell, describing his actions as “terrible judgment.” He stated that good stewardship requires protecting the company, particularly in light of his association with Epstein and Maxwell.

According to recently released US Justice Department files, Pritzker had ongoing and regular contact with Epstein for years after the financier’s conviction on sex crime charges in 2008. The documents also show that Pritzker is not alone in facing repercussions; other prominent figures have been affected by the release of millions of pages of documents detailing Epstein’s network of business, political, and cultural elites.

These include Goldman Sachs chief legal counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, who resigned over her ties to Epstein, and former Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland, whose properties were searched as part of a corruption investigation into his connections with Epstein. Additionally, the head of DP Ports World, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, was replaced due to his close friendship with Epstein.

The controversy surrounding Pritzker’s association with Epstein has led to calls for further scrutiny and accountability. The US House of Representatives Oversight Committee has requested that former United Kingdom ambassador Peter Mandelson submit himself for an interview as part of a congressional investigation into Epstein.
