Thousands of Iraqi Shia supporters gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square on Saturday, demonstrating against US-Israeli actions in the Middle East. The protest, which drew tens of thousands of participants, was part of a broader regional movement against the ongoing conflict.
The demonstrators, including women, held large Iraqi flags and chanted slogans such as “No, no to Israel” and “No, no to America.” They gathered beneath Baghdad’s Freedom Monument, which honors Iraq’s independence declaration. The protesters condemned US and Israeli involvement in regional matters, characterizing it as a violation of the rights of people in the region.
Muqtada Sadr, a prominent Shia leader with millions of followers in Iraq, had called for peaceful demonstrations to condemn what he described as “Zionist-American aggression” and promote peace in the region. The protest was part of this effort.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in thousands of casualties across the region since its start. Sadr’s supporters have been vocal about their opposition to the war, with some leaders calling for global unity against what they see as US-Israeli arrogance. The demonstration was one of several held across Iraq and other cities on Saturday.
