A car bombing at a police post in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has left at least three officers dead and injured multiple others. The incident occurred late on Saturday near the border with Afghanistan.
According to police officials, a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle near a security post, followed by an intense firefight. The blast caused significant damage to the security post and nearby civilian areas, resulting in severe injuries to two civilians.
Security sources reported that multiple explosions were heard after the initial blast, and the security post collapsed due to the impact. Ambulances from rescue agencies and civil hospitals were dispatched to the scene, with officials declaring a state of emergency at government hospitals in Bannu.
The attack was reportedly carried out by a group using drones, and police personnel rushing to provide backup were ambushed. The extent of the damage is still unknown, as fighting continues at the scene.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it has raised concerns about potential repercussions along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. The region has experienced ongoing tensions between Pakistani and Afghan forces, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of harbouring armed groups that use Afghan soil to plot attacks in Pakistan.
