Three Suspects Arrested in Deadly Church Attack Investigation

Security Forces Arrest Three Suspects in Jordanian Church Attack

Three armed suspects were arrested by security forces in Jordan on Monday, following a three-hour confrontation at an abandoned house in the village of Al-Jadeeda in Karak governorate. The suspects had been hiding there since the attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Hamoud village last Friday, which killed eight people and injured 40.

According to the Public Security Directorate, the suspects refused to surrender and attacked security forces, who responded with fire and arrested all three after wounding them. One of the suspects was reported to be in critical condition due to injuries sustained during the confrontation.

The Jordanian government confirmed that firearms and live ammunition were found at the scene of the attack. The directorate stated that the suspects had been apprehended as a result of an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Government officials have commended the efforts of security forces involved in the operation, with Government Communication Minister Mohammad Momani praising their work. King Abdullah II has also offered his condolences to the families of the victims and announced plans to review the country’s security procedures for responding to attacks.

The attack on the church occurred during a funeral, and authorities have been reviewing the circumstances that led to the incident. The Interior Ministry has stated that it will hold accountable anyone found to have participated in the attack.
