Oklahoma City Thunder Defeat San Antonio Spurs 122-113 in Western Conference Finals Opener
The Oklahoma City Thunder have tied the series with the San Antonio Spurs, winning their second heavyweight clash 122-113. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team to victory, scoring 30 points and providing nine assists.
In the first game of the series, the Thunder were largely kept in check but bounced back strongly in the second half. The team’s home win has brought the series level at 1-1, with the next two games scheduled for San Antonio on Friday and Saturday.
Gilgeous-Alexander had a strong performance, regularly scoring from mid-range and leading his team to 13 turnovers worth 16 points in the first half alone. Victor Wembanyama, who had a standout performance in Game One, was stifled by the Thunder’s defense, frequently wrestling with Isaiah Hartenstein.
The Spurs rallied to pull level midway through the third quarter but were unable to retake the lead. Oklahoma City extended their advantage again in the final quarter, with Gilgeous-Alexander sinking another step-back jump shot before an Alex Caruso lay-up extended the lead to nine with 20 seconds remaining.
The Thunder’s Jalen Williams and San Antonio’s Dylan Harper both left the court with injuries and did not return. The team is trying to become the first to repeat as champions since Golden State in 2017 and 2018, having already swept the Phoenix Suns and LeBron James’s Los Angeles Lakers in the first two playoff rounds.
The winner of the series will face either the New York Knicks or the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.
