Tiger Woods Arrested for DUI in Florida
Police body camera footage has been released showing the moments leading to Tiger Woods’ arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) in Florida last week. According to the footage, Woods was handcuffed after failing a sobriety test and appeared astonished as he was taken into custody.
The incident occurred on March 27 when Woods crashed his Land Rover on Jupiter Island. He told police that he had been looking at his phone and changing the radio station when the accident happened. Woods claimed to have not consumed any alcohol, but admitted to taking prescription medications earlier in the day.
During the roadside sobriety test, Deputy Tatiana Levenar observed that Woods’ normal faculties were impaired and suspected that he was under the influence of an unknown substance. Woods denied being under the influence, stating that he was on a prescription medication. However, authorities later confirmed that he was in possession of hydrocodone.
Woods pleaded not guilty to suspicion of DUI and posted a statement saying he would be stepping away from golf “to seek treatment and focus on his health.” He agreed to a breathalyzer test but refused a urine test, citing a change in Florida law. The footage also shows Woods hiccuping, yawning, and appearing to nod off during the 15-minute ride in the back of the patrol car.
The incident has sparked public interest, with President Donald Trump expressing sympathy for Woods, describing him as “an amazing person” who is experiencing some difficulty.
