Train collision with bus in Bangkok leaves at least eight dead

Train Collision in Bangkok Leaves Multiple Injured

A collision between a freight train and a public bus occurred near an airport rail link station in Bangkok’s city centre on Saturday afternoon, according to reports from Thai media outlets. The incident resulted in at least eight fatalities and 25 injuries.

The crash took place around 3:40pm local time when the bus became stuck at an intersection with the rail line after safety barriers descended. The freight train then struck the stationary bus, dragging several nearby vehicles along with it before the bus caught fire. Firefighters and rescue crews responded to the scene, extinguishing the flames and transporting the injured to a hospital.

The freight train was reportedly travelling from Chachoengsao province to Bangkok’s Bang Sue district, while the bus operated a route connecting eastern suburbs to the city centre. The area surrounding the collision is a densely populated part of Bangkok, with many emergency responders and onlookers present at the scene.

Thai authorities have not yet confirmed the number of fatalities or the cause of the accident. The incident has raised concerns about the safety record of Thailand’s rail system, which may be considered antiquated.
