Trump delays ‘scheduled attack’ on Iran, crediting ‘serious negotiations’

US President Donald Trump Announces Postponement of Planned Attack on Iran

In a statement released on his Truth Social account, US President Donald Trump announced that he will postpone a scheduled attack on Iran at the request of regional leaders in the Middle East. The decision comes amid ongoing negotiations between the US, Israel, and Iran.

According to Trump, “serious negotiations are now taking place” and a deal is expected to be reached, which will be acceptable to all parties involved. He credited Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with influencing his decision.

Trump stated that he has instructed the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, and the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Daniel Caine, to prepare for a potential full-scale assault on Iran if negotiations fail. However, no further details were provided on the nature of the proposed deal or what breakthroughs have been made in the stalled negotiations.

The US has been engaged in a conflict with Iran since February 28, when it joined Israel in attacking Iranian targets. The war has sparked regional tensions and has cost the country at least $29 billion so far, according to Pentagon officials.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently stated that his government will protect its interests, regardless of the outcome of negotiations. He emphasized that dialogue does not mean surrender and that Iran will continue to defend its rights and sovereignty.

The US and Iran have previously struck a ceasefire deal, but it has been fragile, with both sides accusing each other of violations. The war has also proven to be a political liability for Trump, who faces stiff competition in the upcoming midterm elections in the US.
