Trump Prefers Diplomatic Solution Amid Rising Tensions with Iran

US President Donald Trump Addressed Congress on State of the Union, Emphasizing Diplomatic Approach to Iran

During his annual State of the Union address to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump addressed tensions with Iran. In his remarks, Trump stated that he would prefer to resolve differences with Tehran through diplomacy.

Trump claimed that Iran is seeking to rebuild its nuclear program, which was damaged by US strikes in June 2025. He also accused Iran of working to develop missiles capable of striking the US mainland. The President emphasized that his “preference” is to solve this problem through diplomacy, but he reiterated that allowing Iran to possess a nuclear weapon would be unacceptable.

Trump stated that despite ongoing negotiations with Iran, the country has not expressed willingness to abandon its nuclear ambitions. He also criticized Iran for alleged involvement in roadside bombings and the deaths of thousands of protesters during recent demonstrations.

The US President’s comments come amid a significant military buildup in the Middle East and ahead of a third round of indirect talks scheduled for Thursday. Iranian officials have stated that they are committed to achieving a fair and equitable deal, while emphasizing their opposition to developing a nuclear weapon.

In related news, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed optimism about the possibility of a deal with the US, stating that “a deal is within reach” if diplomacy is prioritized. The talks, mediated by Oman, will be attended by US envoys and Iranian officials.
