US President Donald Trump Announces Plans to Meet with Iranian Negotiators
Washington, D.C. - US President Donald Trump has announced plans to meet in the Situation Room to make a “final determination” on a possible deal with Iran that could extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump’s latest post on his Truth Social platform, he has outlined several conditions for Tehran to accept, including never having a nuclear weapon or bomb, the Strait of Hormuz being open in both directions without tolls, and the removal of any remaining mines left in the Strait. He also stated that no money will be exchanged until further notice.
Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has expressed skepticism about the deal, stating that Tehran will judge any agreement by actions rather than promises as talks continue. “No action will be taken before the other side acts,” he said in a social media post.
In response to Trump’s announcement, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that no final agreement has been reached with the US. He also criticized the US naval blockade, calling it an “illegal action” and stating that Tehran needs to see whether the US will follow through on their words.
The situation remains uncertain, with reports suggesting that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) is in its final stages of ratification. However, no final decision has been made yet. The details of the MOU are still unclear, and both sides have expressed skepticism about the deal.
Trump’s meeting in the Situation Room is set to take place soon, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will be reached.
