US President Donald Trump has issued a statement on his Truth Social platform, urging Iran to comply with US demands. The statement, which included a warning that time is running out for Iran to meet its obligations, was posted on Sunday morning.
Trump’s message came as negotiations between the two countries continue to stall. The US president had previously outlined several objectives for the conflict, including dismantling Iran’s missile arsenal and ending its nuclear enrichment programme.
In recent days, Trump has used social media to convey his concerns about the situation, including a post that suggested wholesale destruction in Iran. However, the US and Iran agreed to a ceasefire on April 7, which has been in place ever since.
The US president had previously threatened to attack Iran’s civilian infrastructure, including its power plants and bridges. Legal experts have warned that such actions could be in violation of international law.
Iran has rejected Trump’s demands as excessive and accused the US of seeking to obtain concessions without making tangible offers. A spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces has also warned the US against further threats, stating that any repetition of such language would result in severe consequences.
Correspondents from Tehran have reported that the Iranian government views violent rhetoric from the US as unacceptable. Analysts have noted that the increasingly hostile remarks from both sides may signal a narrowing diplomatic window and an increased risk of conflict.
Separately, Trump’s administration has been accused of using bombastic language to convey its concerns about Iran. Foreign policy analysts have cautioned that it will be crucial to monitor whether Trump’s statements are echoed by his officials in the coming days.
