US President Denies Knowledge of Investigation Findings
President Donald Trump has denied knowledge of the preliminary Department of Defense investigation’s findings that indicate the US military was behind the deadly strike in an elementary school in southern Iran. The attack, which occurred on February 28, resulted in over 170 deaths, mostly children.
According to a report by The New York Times, the Pentagon is conducting an investigation into the incident. Trump initially blamed Iran for the bombing but later claimed he did not know the details of the strike. In recent days, he has stated that he does not take responsibility for the attack.
Trump’s comments on the matter have been met with criticism from some in his administration and lawmakers. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declined to endorse Trump’s assessment, stating that the Pentagon is investigating the incident. Republican Senator John Kennedy also expressed concerns about the strike, stating that it was a “terrible mistake” but did not provide details about his assessment.
The attack has become emblematic of the civilian toll of the US-Israeli war on Iran, with at least 1,300 people killed according to Iranian officials. New footage of the attack has revealed that it was carried out using a Tomahawk missile, a US weapon that neither Iran nor Israel owns.
Trump has stated that “numerous countries” have Tomahawk missiles and that he would accept the results of the investigation into the bombing. The US military has confirmed that it used Tomahawk missiles in the opening strikes against Iran on February 28.
