Trumps Board of Peace Appoints Rights Abusers to Global Leadership Positions

US President Proposes New Organization, “Board of Peace,” With Himself as Chairman

A new organization, dubbed the “Board of Peace,” is being proposed by US President Donald Trump, with himself serving as lifetime chairman. The board’s charter aims to promote stability and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict.

The proposal has been met with skepticism from human rights organizations, which have expressed concerns about the lack of emphasis on human rights in the board’s charter. The United Nations (UN) has played a central role in promoting universal human rights since its establishment in 1945.

Despite this, the Trump administration has taken steps to undermine the UN’s efforts, including withdrawing from several international organizations and defunding lifesaving programs. US negotiators have also pushed for the removal of certain language related to human rights from UN resolutions and statements.

The proposed board is expected to be dominated by leaders with questionable human rights records, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The organization’s membership fees are reportedly set at $1 billion per year.

Several countries, including China, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, have been invited to join the board, despite their human rights records being considered “appalling” by some organizations. The European Union has also seen divisions on whether to participate, with Hungary and Bulgaria agreeing to join while France and Canada declined.

The proposed board’s charter grants its chairman, Trump, supreme authority to adopt resolutions or directives as he sees fit.
