Trumps Iran strategy may give US significant advantage in Strait of Hormuz

US President Announces Military Assistance for Ships in Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the US military will begin guiding ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz by the end of the week. The move comes as a response to Tehran’s blockade of nearly all shipping from the Gulf, which has been in place for over two months.

The White House posted an image of President Trump holding playing cards from the Uno game on its X account, accompanied by the message “I have all the cards.” The post was made after Trump announced his plan to guide ships safely out of restricted waterways, dubbed “Project Freedom.”

In a statement, Trump said that US negotiators are engaged in “very positive discussions” with Tehran, which could lead to a resolution. However, Iran has reacted by insisting that the security of the waterway is in its hands and warned that any safe passage should be carried out in coordination with its armed forces.

The Iranian Fars news agency reported on Monday that a US warship had been hit by two Iranian drones, but this claim was denied by US Central Command. The US military’s involvement in guiding ships through the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns about potential escalation of the conflict.

Iran’s Consulate General in Hyderabad, India, posted an image on X comparing Trump’s five cards to four held by an Iranian military spokesperson, suggesting that holding all the cards typically means losing in the game of Uno. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that ships deemed to be in breach of its rules will be stopped by force.

The US and Iran have been engaged in a standoff over the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel attacked Iran two months ago, disrupting global energy supplies. The US maintains its sanctions regime against Iran, which has significantly constrained the country’s economy.
