US President Donald Trump Delivers Longest State of the Union Address
On Tuesday night, President Trump delivered his second State of the Union address, which lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes, surpassing the previous record set by former President Bill Clinton in 2000. The speech covered various policy areas, including the economy, crime, trade, immigration, and foreign policy.
During the address, Trump stated that “our nation is back: bigger, better, richer and stronger than ever before.” He also emphasized that his administration’s efforts have contributed to a “turnaround for the ages.” The president concluded by saying that “our future will be bigger, better, brighter, bolder and more glorious than ever before.”
Key points from the speech included Trump’s stewardship of the US economy. He highlighted strong job numbers and Wall Street’s continued strength, but did not discuss the slower-than-expected growth in 2025. The president also addressed affordability issues, blaming Democrats for creating high prices. He touted his TrumpRx website as a solution to this problem.
Trump also discussed his executive order limiting Wall Street investment firms from buying single-family homes in bulk and his efforts to keep utility bills low through deals with tech companies. However, he acknowledged the US Supreme Court’s ruling that large portions of his reciprocal tariffs were illegal.
The president focused on his hardline immigration policies, particularly regarding border closures and migration rates. He claimed that migrants commit crimes at a lower rate than US citizens, but also alleged widespread fraud in the Somali-American community.
A new set of global tariffs of 10 percent went into effect under Trump’s administration, with plans to increase them to 15 percent. The president stated that congressional action would not be necessary to keep the tariffs in place.
The speech was notable for its length and focus on various policy areas. It remains to be seen how the address will impact public perception of Trump’s presidency and the Republican Party’s chances in the upcoming midterm elections.
