Trumps White House Ballroom Plans Approved by Planning Commission

Planning Commission Approves Trump’s Ballroom Project Despite Legal Challenges

A planning commission in Washington D.C. has approved President Donald Trump’s proposal for a large ballroom at the White House, despite ongoing legal challenges and public opposition. The National Capital Planning Commission voted in favour of the project on Thursday.

The 90,000-square-foot ballroom is currently estimated to cost around $400 million, with construction expected to be completed before Trump completes his current term in early 2029. The project has been met with significant backlash, with many people expressing strong opposition to its construction.

A federal judge ruled earlier this week that the project could not move forward without Congressional authorisation. US District Judge Richard Leon stated that “the President of the United States is the steward of the White House for future generations of First Families. He is not, however, the owner!”

The commission’s decision has been met with criticism from some quarters, including democracy advocate Jon Golinger, who stated that “the American people have weighed in on this project, and they hate it.” Trump has responded to the ruling by claiming that the ballroom is being financed through private donations rather than federal funds.

A total of 12 members were on the commission, with three appointed by Trump. The commission’s original vote was scheduled for March but was delayed due to a large number of comments from the public, with many expressing strong opposition to the project.
