Gaza Conflict Escalates Amid Ongoing Ceasefire Violations
A Palestinian man has been killed and several others injured in a drone strike targeting a motorcycle west of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Saturday. The incident occurred outside the designated zones of Israeli military deployment under the October ceasefire agreement.
Eyewitnesses reported that an Israeli drone struck the motorcycle, while medical sources confirmed the death of Eyad al-Motawwaq and injuries to several others. Israel also shelled the eastern areas of Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood on Saturday, although no casualties have been confirmed.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least four people were killed and 15 others injured in the Strip over the past 48 hours. Rescue teams are working to reach victims trapped under rubble.
The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life, with Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza since October 2023 claiming the lives of 72,736 people and injuring over 172,000 more. The majority of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, leaving nearly two million residents displaced.
Since the ceasefire agreement, at least 850 Palestinians have been killed and 2,433 others injured in Israeli attacks, according to the Health Ministry. Truce talks between Israel and Hamas have stalled, with senior Israeli military officials pushing for a return to war due to Hamas’s stance on surrendering weapons.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Hamas’s advisory Shura Council head Muhammad Darwish on Saturday to discuss efforts to secure peace in Gaza and humanitarian assistance initiatives. Fidan declared Israel’s expanding presence in Gaza and its obstruction of aid deliveries as “unacceptable” during the meeting, according to sources at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The situation remains tense, with ongoing ceasefire violations and stalled truce talks.
