A shooting incident occurred on Monday at a high school ice hockey game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. According to authorities, the suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The first emergency call reporting the shooting was received at 2:28pm local time. Authorities confirmed that investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the attack. Video footage appears to show a rapid burst of shots followed by a final shot from an area outside the camera’s view.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing several shots before spectators and student athletes began reacting, taking cover and fleeing towards the exits. The incident occurred at the Dennis M Lynch Arena during what was supposed to be a celebratory event for Senior Night.

Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien released a statement expressing condolences to the victims’ families and those affected by the incident. FBI Director Kash Patel announced that agents from the agency’s Boston Division have been deployed to support the investigation.

This incident marks the latest outbreak of gun violence in Rhode Island, following a separate shooting at Brown University two months prior. The city of Pawtucket has approximately 75,000 residents and is the fourth-largest city in the state.
