Two People Killed in Israeli Attack on Ein el-Hilweh Camp
A drone attack by Israeli forces has struck the Hittin neighborhood of the Ein el-Hilweh camp, a Palestinian refugee settlement located near Sidon, Lebanon. According to reports from Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), at least two people have been killed in the incident.
The NNA initially reported that one man from the al-Khatib family was killed and several others were wounded. The Israeli military has since stated that it targeted a Hamas command center, claiming that terrorists operated from there. However, the Israeli forces also caused significant damage to a building previously used for security purposes in the camp.
The incident occurred despite a 2024 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, an armed group in Lebanon. In November last year, Israel conducted a major raid on Ein el-Hilweh that killed 13 people, including 11 children, according to the UN rights office.
Since agreeing to halt hostilities, Israel has continued to launch strikes on Lebanon, with over 10,000 air and ground attacks reported by the United Nations. The UN’s rights office has verified at least 108 civilian casualties from Israeli attacks since the ceasefire, including women and children.
Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN last month regarding repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire, urging the UN Security Council to push Israel to end its attacks and withdraw from Lebanese territory.
