Tyson Fury Reveals Anthony Joshua’s Accident as Key Factor in His Comeback
British boxer Tyson Fury has attributed his decision to return to the ring to a recent car accident involving his rival, Anthony Joshua. The incident occurred in Nigeria in December, resulting in the deaths of Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele. A week later, Fury announced his comeback.
Fury made this statement during a press conference at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday. He will face Russian-born Arslanbek Makhmudov in a fight scheduled for April 11 at the London venue. The event marks Fury’s return to competition after a 15-month hiatus from boxing.
According to Fury, his decision to resume fighting was influenced by Joshua’s accident. “The biggest turning point in this comeback for me was the tragedy that happened with Anthony Joshua,” Fury said. He expressed a newfound appreciation for life and the importance of making the most of every moment. “You should never put things off until tomorrow, or next year, or next week because tomorrow is not promised to nobody.”
Fury’s return to boxing comes after a five-year retirement from the sport. The 37-year-old fighter has stated that he will be competing for the first time since losing to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.
