UFC Featherweight Title Defended by Alexander Volkanovski Against Rafael Lopes

Australian Fighter Alexander Volkanovski Retains Title with Unanimous Decision

In a highly anticipated rematch, Australian mixed martial artist Alexander Volkanovski successfully defended his UFC featherweight title against Brazilian Diego Lopes at UFC 325 in Sydney. The bout saw Lopes push the champion to the limit, but ultimately fell short of victory.

The first three rounds were closely contested, with both fighters taking turns landing significant blows and utilizing various techniques. However, Volkanovski made adjustments throughout the fight, employing the clinch to neutralize Lopes’s offense. In the end, the judges awarded Volkanovski a unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45).

Volkanovski’s victory marked his first title defense during his second reign as champion. The win was also notable for being fought in front of a large and vocal Australian crowd, which Volkanovski stated felt different from previous fights.

In the co-main event, French lightweight Benoit Saint-Denis defeated New Zealand’s Dan Hooker via technical knockout (TKO) in the second round. Saint-Denis has now won four consecutive fights, solidifying his position in title contention.

Other notable results included a TKO victory for Brazilian lightweight Mauricio Ruffy over Azerbaijani Rafael Fiziev in the second round of their bout. The loss marked Fiziev’s fourth defeat in five outings since a six-match win streak was snapped in March 2023.

The UFC has not announced a numbered event scheduled for February, with UFC 326 set to take place on March 7 in Las Vegas.
