Russia’s Movsar Evloev wins majority decision over Lerone Murphy at UFC Fight Night 270.
Movsar Evloev, a Russian fighter, defeated Lerone Murphy in a highly anticipated bout at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday. The five-round contest was closely contested, with both fighters putting their undefeated records on the line. Evloev, known for his wrestling skills, attempted to showcase his striking abilities, while Murphy displayed impressive defensive work on the ground.
Murphy successfully evaded Evloev’s grappling attack for the first two rounds, using a combination of stiff right hands to keep him at bay. However, Evloev adapted and began to land some of his signature spinning strikes in the third round. The momentum shifted in Evloev’s favour after he took the fight to the mat early in the frame.
Evloev was subsequently docked a point by referee Marc Goddard for landing a kick to Murphy’s groin during the fourth round. Despite this setback, Evloev continued to press his attack in the fifth and final round, employing his grappling skills to try and finish the fight.
The judges’ scorecards ultimately decided the outcome of the bout, with two scoring the fight 48-46 in Evloev’s favour and the third scoring it a draw 47-47 after taking into account the point deduction. The victory likely secures Evloev a title fight against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in his next bout.
