Brazilian welterweight Carlos Prates secured a dominant victory over hometown fighter Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Fight Night in Perth, Australia on Saturday. The fight took place at the RAC Arena and was part of the main event.
Prates dropped Della Maddalena to the canvas with a calf kick late in the second round, followed by three knockdowns in the third round using a knee, head kick, and leg kick. The referee stopped the fight after the final knockdown.
Following his win, Prates expressed interest in competing against the winner of an upcoming welterweight title fight between champion Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Makhachev. “I can punch, I can knee, I can kick,” Prates stated. “So, I’m better, and now I feel like I’m the number one contender.”
