Ugandas President Museveni Son Threatens Bobi Wine After Election

Uganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has made a statement on social media, accusing opposition leader Bobi Wine of being a “terrorist”. The accusation comes amid disputed election results in the country. President Yoweri Museveni was declared winner of a seventh term as president, but the opposition claims the election was marred by fraudulent votes.

Bobi Wine has been in hiding since last week’s election and has claimed to have evidence of electoral irregularities, including videos purporting to show election commission officials filling in ballot papers in favour of Museveni. A spokesperson for the Electoral Commission of Uganda declined to comment on this allegation.

General Kainerugaba wrote on X that he is willing to kill Wine if he does not surrender himself to the police within 48 hours. The military has denied previous accusations of raiding Wine’s home and attempting to capture him. Wine’s whereabouts have been unknown since Saturday, and he has demanded that the military vacate his compound.

In a statement, Wine criticized Kainerugaba’s threats and accused the government of trying to intimidate and silence opposition figures. He also clarified that being labeled a “terrorist” is often used as a tactic in dictatorships to suppress dissent. Wine stated that young people associated with him are being detained, while he and other party officials remain free.

The situation remains tense, with Wine’s safety and whereabouts still unknown. The government has denied abducting Bobi Wine, and the opposition continues to dispute the election results.
