UK denies entry to Kanye West due to anti-Semitic views

British PM Keir Starmer’s office has confirmed that Kanye West’s request to enter the UK has been denied due to his past anti-Semitic comments and celebrations of Nazism. The decision was made by the Home Office, which cited concerns about the potential impact on public safety and well-being.

West had submitted an application to travel to Britain earlier this week, with plans to headline a summer festival in London. However, the UK government has refused to grant him entry, citing his previous remarks as “deeply concerning”.

The Wireless Festival, scheduled to take place in July, has been cancelled, with refunds being issued to all ticket holders. The event’s organisers had faced pressure from sponsors and politicians to cancel West’s performances.

West had offered to meet with members of the British Jewish community, stating that his goal was to present a show of change through music. However, some have questioned the sincerity of this statement, given his past actions.

In January, West took out a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal apologising for his behaviour, attributing it to an untreated bipolar disorder. However, some critics have disputed this explanation, with one government minister describing it as “appalling”.

The UK government’s decision has been welcomed by some groups, including the Campaign Against Antisemitism, which stated that it had “clearly made the right decision”. The Board of Deputies of British Jews had also expressed willingness to meet West if he pulled out of the festival.
