UK Pro-Palestinian Activists Found Not Guilty of Aggravated Burglary Charges

Six British activists have been acquitted of aggravated burglary charges related to a 2024 raid on an Elbit Systems facility in Bristol, England. The six defendants, who were members of the Palestine Action group, denied all charges. A jury was unable to reach verdicts on charges of violent disorder and criminal damage.

The prosecution alleged that the group entered the site with the intent to use violence. However, the defense argued that the defendants’ sole intention was to disarm Israeli weapons to prevent violence. The jury agreed with this argument.

The six defendants were among 24 activists linked to the Palestine Action group who have been arrested at different times. They have been in custody for over a year without trial, exceeding the UK’s six-month pre-trial detention limit.

The prosecution has drawn international attention and is being used as a test case for how the British government handles pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The group, which describes itself as a pro-Palestinian organization that disrupts the arms industry in the UK with direct action, has accused the UK government of complicity in Israeli war crimes.

The defendants were found not guilty of violent disorder by a jury, while the outcome on criminal damage charges was left uncertain after 36.5 hours of deliberation. The judge’s decision allowed the defendants to be released from custody.
