NATO Affirms Readiness to Defend Territory Against Potential Attacks
A drone strike in Galati, Romania, has reignited attention on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The incident occurred in a major port city situated near the Ukrainian border on the Danube River. Romanian President Nicusor Dan attributed the attack to Russia.
The European Union swiftly condemned Moscow’s involvement, while NATO confirmed its preparedness to defend its territory against potential attacks. Russian President Vladimir Putin denied responsibility for the strike but stated that the war was nearing its end. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of an impending major aerial assault.
Experts weigh in on the possibility of NATO becoming entangled in the conflict. Olesia Horiainova, co-founder and deputy head of the Ukrainian Security and Cooperation Centre, expressed concerns about Russia’s intentions. Donald Jensen, adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University, noted that NATO’s response would depend on the specific circumstances. Alexey Muraviev, Russian defence and security specialist, argued that Moscow’s actions were a legitimate response to Ukraine’s aggression.
As tensions escalate, diplomatic efforts are being scrutinized. The situation remains fluid, with multiple parties offering differing assessments of the conflict’s trajectory.
