A 58-year-old man from Moscow has been identified as the gunman who killed at least six people and took hostages in Kyiv, Ukraine. The attack occurred on Saturday in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital city.

According to officials, the assailant opened fire on civilians in the street before barricading himself inside a nearby supermarket. Ukrainian police special tactical units stormed the supermarket after approximately 40 minutes of failed negotiations with the gunman. During the standoff, the attacker shot at police officers.
