Ukraine showcases advanced drone capabilities in ongoing conflict with Iran

Ukraine Offers Defence Swap Help to Gulf States Amidst Iranian Drone Crisis

Kyiv, Ukraine - Ukrainian experts have expressed readiness to assist the United States and Israel in combating Iranian-made drones. The country’s experience in downing these drones over the past four years has made it an unlikely source of solutions for the wider conflict.

Iran is estimated to possess tens of thousands of Shahed drones, according to recent footage from Iranian media. The drones have been deployed in several Middle East countries this week, prompting Tehran to claim that it is attacking US assets in retaliation for the launch of a war against it.

Ukraine has developed its own system to combat these drones, which uses interceptor drones designed to collide midair with incoming threats at a fraction of the cost. The P1-SUN, produced by Skyfall, a private Ukrainian manufacturer, is one such example. This drone travels up to 310 km/hour and features a 3D-printed body that makes it cheap and easy to produce.

Ukraine’s experience in dealing with Iranian-made drones has been extensive. Over the past four years, the country has focused on intercepting these drones, which have caused significant damage across Ukraine. In recent winters, Russia launched over 19,000 attack drones at Ukraine, with Moscow deploying 54,000 Shahed-type drones against the country in 2025.

In response to the growing crisis, Ukraine has offered assistance to partners seeking cost-effective air defence technologies. The country’s expertise in combating Iranian-made drones is now being shared with Gulf states that are facing similar threats.
