US to Suspend Operation Guiding Ships Through Strait of Hormuz
The United States has announced that it will temporarily halt its military operation, known as “Project Freedom”, which aims to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The decision was made by US President Donald Trump.
According to a statement from the White House, the suspension is due to a request from Pakistan and progress being made towards a final agreement with Iran. Details on the nature of these developments are not yet available.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. It has been a focal point for international maritime traffic in recent years, particularly following a series of attacks on oil tankers and other vessels in the region.
US military personnel have been stationed in the area since 2019 to provide escort services to ships transiting the strait. The operation was initially launched as part of an effort to reassure allies and protect shipping lanes in the face of rising tensions between Iran and other regional powers.
The suspension of “Project Freedom” is expected to be temporary, with no further details on when operations will resume provided by the White House at this time.
