US to Suspend Guidance for Ships in Strait of Hormuz
The United States has announced that it will temporarily suspend its military operation, known as “Project Freedom”, which provides guidance for ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement from US President Donald Trump, the decision was made at his request. The pause is reportedly in response to a request from Pakistan and progress towards a final agreement with Iran.
Details of the operation’s suspension are not yet available. However, it is understood that the US military will no longer provide guidance for ships transiting the strait until further notice.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea, and its navigation is subject to international regulations. The US has maintained a naval presence in the region since 2019, following increased tensions with Iran.
A final agreement between the US and Iran on maritime security and safety protocols was reportedly reached recently. However, further details of this agreement are not yet publicly available.
The suspension of “Project Freedom” is expected to have implications for global shipping operations in the region. The operation’s pause will be closely monitored by international authorities and shipping companies.
