US Defence Secretary Declares Military Victory Over Iran
In a press conference on Wednesday, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the US military had achieved “every single objective” in its operation against Iran. Hegseth stated that Operation Epic Fury was a “historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield,” resulting in the destruction of Iran’s navy, air defence system, and missile production capability.
Hegseth also confirmed that the ceasefire deal with Iran means the country will no longer possess a nuclear weapon. He acknowledged that while Iran is not completely defenceless, it would be “very unwise” for them to engage in further military action.
The US military’s objectives in Iran have been met, according to General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. However, Caine emphasized that the ceasefire is a pause and that forces remain ready to resume combat if necessary.
Iran has also declared victory, with its Supreme National Security Council congratulating its citizens on this achievement. The council stated that Iran’s “axis of resistance” in Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, and occupied Palestine had dealt significant blows to the enemy over the past 40 days.
As part of the ceasefire deal, Tehran has agreed to allow the safe transit of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been paralyzed throughout the war. The reopening of the strait is expected to take place in coordination with the Iranian military.
The US and Iran are set to meet in Pakistan soon, and a senior Iranian official has indicated that Tehran could open the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday or Friday if a ceasefire framework is reached.
